The coconut palm leaves reflects in the clear waters of Vembanadu Lake, Cochin where deep pink and white water lilies are found in abundance… Hundreds of acres of paddy fields are also found nearby. In fact, Kuttanadu is known as the “Rice bowl of Kerala”.
The water lilies were seen in a location where paddy is cultivated few feet below the sea level. Special dams are constructed that check the in-flow of saline water thereby enabling two crops per year. However, during rainy season, the out-flow is ensured by opening shutters in the dam. Location is Kuttanadu in Alapuzha district in the state of Kerala.
